:: The Iron On B&S Weekend ::
We'll be appearing in public, in an offical capacity, twice this weekend. Check the gig guide (to yr left) for details but just quickly we're playing at The Troubadour on Saturday night and DJing at the 'recovery' at Chelsea Drugstore(Rics Cafe) Sunday arvo. It's like the Iron On B&S or something.
NB: We have both available bachelors and spinsters within the band, so please ask if your require assistance. Buying them alcohol helps in some instances, and in others it doesn't help at all. And yes, unfortunately talking at length about obscure Australian independent rock music from the 90s will also help you out too. And let's face it, if you know a LOT about obscure 90s Australian indie-rock you're probably single anyhow.
:: New Demos ::
Iron On are always busy. Sometimes its just not obvious is all. We're probably gonna start recording our debut long playing record in February so we thought it best that we demo a few songs. We have a few new ones finished and all of them were committed to 8-track reel-to-reel tape over the last two days in a friend's rompus room studio.
Its kinda interesting. You should never expect anything from Iron On but I think there is a really, really good chance that parts of the record are gonna sound a little like the last EP and other parts aren't. Hahaha.
Though, there is gonna be some pop music on the next record, so please start thinking about how yr gonna get over it now to avoid future embarrassment. Some of our new songs have easily discernable choruses, I shit you not. But by pop I probably still mean something radio will never play in 4,000,000 years. Still it'd be nice, we're pretty much aiming to sell out before the Howard Government takes control of the senate in June 2005. If you're in a band, I'd advise you to do likewise unless you've got the stomach (and skills) for blowing strangers at the bus shelter.
In addition to summer hits and sad toe-tappers, there was something referred to in the studio as 'the other reel'. The other reel is not a particularly pleasant place. Maybe you really can listen to too much early Magic Dirt, maybe combining 90s Australian noise-rock and indie-pop wasn't such a hot idea? Ricaine covering Idlewild, not a good idea? Why didn't someone tell us? Anyhow, too late now because its been recorded: walls of noise and rock songs that sound like good reasons not to pick on the weedy record geeks in highschool. If only they were as much fun to listen to as they are to play.
When will you hear these demos? Never, I imagine. But you can hear live verisons of the songs whenever you decide to come out and see us play. In fact we're playing with Dick Nasty, Knaw, The Quickening, Draft Dodger and Roshambo this saturday night at The Jubilee Hotel. We're on at 9:00pm. Time Off also provided a handy genre guide for the evening:
Dick Nasty: Hardcore punk
Knaw: Local punk
The Quickening: Local punk
Draft Dodger: Local punk
Iron On: Indie-rock
Roshambo: Indie-rock
We'd like to take this moment to apologise to Roshambo as they have been truly damned by association.
