:: Recent Melbourne Tour ::
We just got back from Melbourne this week. The shows down there this time were a pleasure to be a part of. We 'represented' at The Epsy w/ Remake Remodel and The Bites, we 'represented' once again with something pretty noisy and energetic at The Vic with Teen God and Minor:Ache and then we finished off with a flu-tablet fueled 'mis-representation' at The Cue Bar with New Estate and Kirsty Stegwazi. Thanks a bundle to all those bands (and their peeps), the venues (and their peeps) and a special big hug and grope to the Rene Bites and Kirsty Bites for taking us in and booking us in. We appreciated it, and you both...long time. [Special thanks to Shane Moritz for everything AND the dancing].
:: Overhauling The Online ::
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Ian knows the website has been a bit shabby of late but he's been busy doing things....things that will be represented on the website very soon. Oh shit...SOME of the things he's been doing will appear on the website, only some of the things, right? We're making damn sure all those weird pictures he's been taking of his meals won't be getting posted up there, so don't fret web surfer. Next week it's all happening. Ian is taking a week off work and will be busy having a big, one person HTML party (that's what we call it to stop him from continuously weeping - that and we told him some girls *might* be coming to his HTML party - bahahaha). Check back next week for a new Tour Diary, a new Navigation page, some new form-age, an MP3 from 'Everybody Calm Down' and some new photos.
:: We're Going To Melbourne Again ::
Yes, we are returning to Melbourne. No we're not taking the Trailer Of Dead, it has been retired and remains in a permanent state of 'undeadness'. Some may hail us as insane sell-outs but this time we're driving in a nice rental car marking our first road trip to Melbourne in air-conditioned comfort. Check the gig guide to yr right for dates, places and venues.
:: Everybody Calm Down EP ::
Our new EP is almost upon you (huh?). Come May 1st it will be in all the reputable record stores and you will be able to buy it for a total of $12 AUS per unit. For the trainspotters, the recording is currently being manufactured in Sydney and will be distributed by MGM nationally.
:: Iron On Completes Depot Residency ::
All done for us at the Depot, and what a month March was. Whilst in residency Iron On:
+ Drank 12 free beers and 4 free softdrinks and countless half-price alcoholic beverages large and small.
+ Played every song we knew except 'Sleep In'.
+ Encouraged the liberation of the DJ booth by introducing the following new DJs to Brisbane City:
DJ Cousin James, Autumn DJ; DJ Cousin Stewart, DJs Big Dog and Mini Dog, DJ Phoenix, DJ Coops, DJ King and, much to the chagrin of venue staff, a few sessions by
DJ 'Some Stranger Who Played Records While The Band Were At The Bar". And lest we forget the guest appearance by the already infamous
DJ Referdex. Thank you all for helping out.
+ Shut the PA every night. DB override peaked on nights two and four.
+ Met some new people.
+ Hosted Jess from Special Branch's 30th birthday.
+ Got musically slaughtered by the likes of The Bites, Seaplane, Turnpike and The Autumn Giants.
+ Danced.
+ Had a great time. Who wouldn't wanna play all their favourite records all night, book their favourite bands to play supports and get paid to play in a new club? Sound problems...smound problems, the DB limiter made a great ally for those end of set breakdowns (when it clicked off, the show IS over). Cheers all at the Depot, James Straker and all attendees and family members.
But there is a darker side to all things Depot. By week four things were getting pretty frazzled. In what will forever be known from this point forward as 'residency fever' we just kept going back.
Where are we going tonight? The Depot!
Why? That's where we always go. We have to go. We go there every week !!! We can't stop us. YOU CAN'T STOP US GOING, GET OUT OF MY WAY !!! And come the last weekend in March, tired and drunk and with the fever running hot in our veins we were ceremoniously (and in one case physically) ousted from the establishment and sent back to the practise room. And so as it starts, it ends. A group counselling session has been attended, we are dealing with the various separation issues.
Dollarbar are currently in residency. Go, be with them before the fever takes hold. Beware the fever Dollarbar, beware.
